Guariento, the Angels and the magnificent Padua of the XIV century
Between the 16th of April and the 31st of July, “Guariento and Padua Carrarese” is an event in Padua that includes exhibitions and itineraries promoted and organized by the City Council of Padua – the Office of Cultura and Musei Civici and the Foundation Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo.
The heart of the event is the Guariento exhibition organized in the renovated Palazzo del Monte, the exhibition center of Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo Foundation.
The exhibition that many considered to be “impossible” has actually became real: all the main operas of the great “Master of Angels” , the one that – after Giotto – was the biggest interpreter of the Art of Painting of the XIV century in Padua, will be reunited in a big exhibition.
Tens of precious paintings and frescoes will finally document the absolute greatness of the artist that knew how to present the elegancy of the international gothic. The gorgeous Angels, Archangels, Cherubins of Guariento will be accompanied by other remarkable operas of the Maestro characterized by the saint or profane theme. Next to Guariento’s art pieces, the exhibition offers works of Giotto, Pietro and Giuliano da Rimini, Vitale da Bologna, Paolo and Lorenzo Veneziano, Giusto Menabuoi, Altichiero, Vivarini, Nicolò di Pietro, Giambono.
All of it in order to create a story that had never been offered to the public before and that, due to its rarity, preciousness and quality of the operas presented, will be difficult to be reoffered a second time.

From Canova to Modigliani
From Canova to Modigliani. The face of the Nineteenth Century.
This exhibition is the first to be dedicated to the extraordinary vicissitudes of the portrait, a painting genre that was traditionally considered to be minor but which, during the Nineteenth Century, was able to interpret the multiple aspects of that century with greater intensity than the more important genres such as historical and religious painting. It thus became the mirror of a history and humanity undergoing profound changes.
Canova and Modigliani, two internationally renowned protagonists but with absolutely different personalities, open and close this passionate tale in paintings in which both great names in history and the anonymous extras of a domestic epic appear.
Painted and sculptured, of individuals and groups, with or without a setting, celebrative or introspective, these portraits all evoke the changes and restlessness of a society undergoing rapid transformation, interpreting the expectations of a country that was achieving political unity for the very first time. However, above all they also represent decisive changes in style, the artists’ efforts to become more modern, to testify reality in its incessant transformation from a new perspective.
